The 11th Annual Real Estate Symposium took place on December 12, 2018 at the Princeton Club of New York. Hosted by the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate and the Real Estate Circle, the alumni-only educational forum presented a wide range of breakout discussion topics from blockchain to millennial housing and thinking beyond the cycle. We were delighted to see over 240 alumni in attendance, spanning more than 50 graduation years—thank you to all who participated! The discussion covered a wide range of issues, including the current state of the real estate market. McCarthy said that economic growth continues to provide reasons for optimism despite the length of the current expansionary period, and Kalsi added that a slowdown may be coming, though it is not yet showing in economic indicators and that he thinks it may never hit the technical definition of a recession.

Short Presentation Making Blockchain Real—Charting a Course to Generating Business Value |

In this presentation, Tim Grant, Founder & CEO of DrumG Financial Technologies demystified blockchain technology and offered digestible insight on the tech’s use as a business solution. Grant began by informing the audience that we are in the beginnings of a fourth industrial revolution that he defined as the “confluence of emerging technologies.” Grant stated that blockchain is going to help form the foundation of the next-generation financial services infrastructure.

Ryan Harvey ’16 of the Ashforth Company leveraged the expertise of panelists working within the acquisitions, development, and investment sales functions in the multifamily space for a discussion looking at workforce housing, predominately in New York City. Panlests included Tyrone Barnes, Taconic Investment Partners, Isaac Henderson, L+M Development Partners, and Daniel Parker, Hodges Ward Elliott.

David Hodes of Hodes Weill & Associates, moderated a panel of four experts on global real estate to discuss the ongoing trends they see within the industry during the late stages of the current cycle. Panelists included Steven Hason, APG Asset Management, Stuart Rothstein, Apollo Global Management, and Alan Supple ’99, JP Morgan Asset Management.
