On Friday, November 18th, graduate students from the Real Estate programs at Columbia, MIT, and NYU gathered in Uris Hall for the 5th annual Coming to Terms: Negotiating Real Estate Joint Ventures workshop. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate, the MIT Center for Real Estate, the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and Grosvenor, provided students from each of the different programs the opportunity to spend a full day discussing key issues associated with a real estate joint-venture (JV) agreement, while conferring with seasoned professionals from both the legal and business sides of the real estate industry. 2017 Real Estate Capital Markets Conference Summary

When Goodwin and Columbia Business School teamed up to host the first Real Estate Capital Markets Conference 10 years ago, few realized how challenging market conditions were about to become. The global financial crisis that plunged the U.S. economy into recession in late 2008 put acute downward pressure on real estate asset prices and chilled investment across the industry. The recovery since then has been modest, to say the least, but as we met in New York on January 27th for the conference’s 10th anniversary, the outlook for real estate capital markets was positive.
